Treatment with the protein biglycan reduces muscle damage in a mouse model of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies (DBMD), according to new research supported, in part, by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). Dystrophin deficient (mdx) mice given systemic injections of purified biglycan were less susceptible to the loss of muscle strength that characterizes the disease.
